April 5, 2010 (Montgomery Township) -
It was a special night for F.D.M.T. firefighters at its regular
business meeting when they were visited by the victim of car
crash that occurred on Route 309 in June of 1994.
Rice (pronounced Rick-ay) Rice was only
15 years old when she was seriously hurt in a multi-vehicle
crash on Route 309 near Route 63 which left her friend, Danielle
Stinziani, temporarily comatose. Rice was flown to
the hospital with serious head and torso injuries and
firefighters continually visited her in the hospital to monitor
her recovery.
In February of 1995, Rice visited the
firefighters who helped in her rescue to say "thank you."
Now, 15 years later, she came back with her Mom and Dad to say
it again! Rice is doing very well and is currently engaged
to be married.
Rice's story continues to be an inspiration to
all of us, and especially to the firefighters who were on scene
at her rescue her in the summer of 1994. As Rice
said in a newspaper interview in 1995 - "It's amazing there are
people who are that willing to help other people. They are
a great bunch of guys, and they deserve all the recognition they
can get."
