2007 Year In Review
2007 was a special year for F.D.M.T., as we
celebrated 5 years of service to the community.
The year ended with the department totaling 658 runs
with over 4,100 man hours of service, capped off by a series of working fires in
the month of December.
We were proud to welcome a number of new members
throughout the year. Volunteers form the core of F.D.M.T., and we thank
the following new members for answering the call and giving their time in 2007:
Doug Fuller - Firefighter
Dave Hedrick - Firefighter
Matt Kolar - Firefighter
Judy Steingruebel - Fire Police
Steve Jordan - Firefighter
Joshua Deerer - Firefighter
Ken Kramer - Firefighter
Michael Modzlewski - Fire Police
Bill Wiegman - Firefighter
Dan Sharapan - Fire Police
Christine Smith - Fire Police
F.D.M.T. is always looking for new volunteer members
to help in all areas of the department. If you want to experience the
satisfaction of serving our community and make a difference for people in need,
please fill out an application by navigating to our "Join
FDMT" page.
Our apparatus fleet received another boost in the
summer of '07, as a new Ford Expedition went into service as a Deputy Chief's
vehicle.
A major achievement in 2007 was finalizing plans for
the demolition and reconstruction of the Battalion 1 firehouse at Route 309 and
Stump Road. Spearheaded by Assistant Chief Scott Redilla, the plans for
the new firehouse were carefully formulated throughout the year. After
successfully navigating through various code and zoning issues, the final plans
were put in place and work is now underway! Look for the grand opening of
the new Battalion 1 this fall.
In October, F.D.M.T. received a Unit Citation for
it's work at a complicated vehicle rescue on Route 202 near Grays Lane.
It
was in March when a Toyota Celica (pictured) went out of control and flipped
over, striking a utility pole and trapping the driver inside. Firefighters
battled a driving rain, a slippery embankment, and the danger of electrical
wires tangled in the car to extricate the driver. The firefighters
involved in this rescue were formally recognized at a meeting of the Montgomery
Township Board of Supervisors, and presented with a Unit Citation for their
efforts.
In 2007, F.D.M.T. said farewell to Chief David
Vasconez, who had been at the helm since the Department was founded in 2002.
Chief Vasconez now serves as Deputy Chief in charge of the F.D.M.T. Special
Operations Division. More about our new leadership structure can be found
here.
The members of F.D.M.T. are looking forward to 2008,
as we strive to provide excellence in fire protection and rescue services to
the residents and businesses of Montgomery Township.
