2006 Year In Review
F.D.M.T. continued to flourish in 2006, a year marked by significant progress in
all areas of the department.
The year ended with the department totaling 683 runs, up from 634 in 2005.
New members joined, and probationary members graduated to "active" status. On
the whole, F.D.M.T. welcomed 10 new faces during the course of the year.
New members for 2006 were:
Glen Roetman - Firefighter
Phil Stump - Firefighter
Mike Long - Firefighter
Jason Connelly - Firefighter
Chris Mulhearn - Administrative
Joe Freas - Fire Police
Brian Forrest - Firefighter
Brandon Woodward - Firefighter
Craig Lear - Firefighter
David Bennett - Firefighter
On the apparatus front, the department took delivery of 4 new vehicles.
FDMT's rescue capabilities were given a solid boost with the delivery of the
new Rescue 18 (pictured at right), a 2005 Pierce Arrow XT with a full
complement of vehicle rescue and technical rescue tools.
The department also took delivery of a pair of 2007 Ford F250 Super Duty pickup
trucks, designated as Traffic 18 and Special Service 18.
Traffic 18 (pictured below) greatly increases the response capabilities
of
F.D.M.T.'s
Fire Police. Special Service 18 is virtually identical to the Traffic
Unit, however it boasts increased towing capabilities and does not have a cap
over the pickup bed.
The later part of '06 saw the delivery of the new Squad 18(pictured below) ,
a 2006 Pierce Enforcer. Built to F.D.M.T. and Department of Fire Services
specifications, the new Squad 18 will be on the street in January 2007.
"New" was also a key word in the Montgomery Township Department of Fire Services
with the naming of Bill Brightcliffe as the Townships Director of Fire Services.
A 34 year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department, Bill is bringing a fresh,
dynamic perspective to help further integrate the combination of career and
volunteer firefighters who comprise F.D.M.T.
F.D.M.T.'s Training Division continued its outstanding efforts to train all
members in the latest firefighting and rescue techniques. Among the
highlights of the year was a series of intense Rapid Intervention Team drills,
to prepare F.D.M.T. firefighters who respond to assist other area departments at
working fires.
2006 was a year marked by continued achievement and significant expansion.
2007 looks to bring much more of the same as F.D.M.T. keeps striving to fulfill
its mission of providing excellence in fire protection and rescue services to
the residents and businesses of Montgomery Township.
